After that, Becirovic also spoke with the leaders of the Holy See.
In a public statement from the Vatican, Becirovic emphasized that the Vatican supports the sovereignty of BiH and that the Holy See recognized BiH on April 7th, 1992, and that for more than 30 years it has continuously supported the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, as well as the aspiration our country to become a full member of the European Union (EU).
“It is my obligation to show respect to the friends of BiH and to work on strengthening friendly ties. That is why I thanked Pope Francis and the Holy See, on behalf of the citizens of BiH, for their support of our homeland,” Becirovic said.
During the meeting, Becirovic and Pope Francis also discussed the importance of preserving peace and universal values in the world.
In this sense, Becirovic emphasized the importance of the Declaration on Human Fraternity. In that declaration, a call was made for reconciliation and brotherhood among all believers, as well as among all people of good will.
“This important document should also be a guide for new generations towards a culture of mutual respect, dialogue and joint cooperation. BiH is a country where different peoples live together and different religious communities operate. That is why it is important to ensure an environment in which everyone will feel free and equal “, said Becirovic.
BiH‘s unity of diversity, he added, is authentic and valuable, and the victory of the idea of BiH is also the victory of the idea of a united and free Europe.
