BiH ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer

Bosnia and Herzegovina is officially the 121st country to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

After several years of previous actions enabled the implementation of measures and obligations of the Kigali Amendment through the institutional and legal framework, on May 26, 2021, the UN Depositary at the HQ in New York received the instrument of ratification, stated the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH today.

Bearing in mind that there are no producers of HFC substances in BiH, the total consumption is equal to the import of HFC substances, so determining the basic consumption will be a methodologically easy task.

With the ratification of the Kigali Amendment, BiH, as a country covered by Article 5 of the Montreal Protocol, will have the opportunity to apply for funding for the preparation of plans and programs to reduce the consumption of HFC substances.

The Kigali amendment added a new paragraph to the Protocol, which refers to the control of trade with countries that are not members of the amendment, ie. trade in HFCs is prohibited to non-member countries from 2024 onwards.
