BiH registers over Fifty Percent more Tourist Visits

Bosnia and Herzegovina has registered 1,121,267 tourist visits in the period January – September 2022, which is 54.9 percent more compared to the same period in 2021.

In the period January – September there were 2,496,223 overnight stays, which is 44.1 percent more compared to the same period last year.

As a comparison, in the period January – September 2019, the year before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, 1,281,751 tourists visited BiH, which was 11.1 percent more compared to the same period in 2018.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists in the period January – September this year was higher by 12.3 percent, while the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was higher by 73.3 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

In the total number of overnight stays, the participation of domestic tourists was 37.2 percent, while the participation of foreign tourists was 62.8 percent, according to data from the BiH Statistics Agency.

In terms of overnight stays of foreign tourists, the highest number of overnight stays were realized by tourists from Serbia (14.6 percent), Croatia (12.5 percent), Germany (5.5 percent), the United Arab Emirates and Slovenia (with 5.4 percent each) and Turkey and Saudi Arabia (with 4.8 percent each), which is a total of 53 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 47 percent of overnight stays.
