The taekwondo national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina finished its performance at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, and Ada Avdagić achieved a historic result, winning the bronze medal in the category up to 57 kilograms.
Avdagić, a scholarship holder of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reached the medal after winning the quarterfinals against the Spaniard Carla Sesar Vila with a score of 2:1. In the semi-finals, she was defeated by Hatice Kübre İlgun from Turkey with a score of 2:1, thus ending the competition with a bronze medal.
This is also the first medal won by Bosnia and Herzegovina in taekwondo in the history of appearances at the Mediterranean Games.
In addition to Avdagić, Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented in Taranto by Ibrahim Đonko, Džejla Makaš, Benjamin Husić and Nedžad Husić.
Ibrahim Đonko performed in the category up to 58 kilograms. In the round of 16, he defeated the Lebanese Marco Zarifeh with a score of 2:0, while in the quarterfinals he was defeated by the Algerian Nadir Harbi with a score of 2:0.
Benjamin Husić in the category up to 68 kilograms was stopped in the round of 16. Croatian Marko Golubić was better than him with a score of 2:1.
Džeja Makaš performed in the category up to 49 kilograms. She made it to the quarterfinals, where after an uncertain fight she was defeated by Andorra’s Naiara Linan Pardo with a score of 2:1.
The last BiH representative was Nedžad Husić, who competed in the category up to 80 kilograms. Husić faced a very difficult opponent in the quarterfinals, the Croatian Leon Hrgota, who won 2:0. With that, Husić ended his performance at the Mediterranean Games.
Thus, five BiH taekwondo players finished their performances in Taranto, with Ada Avdagić’s historic bronze medal.
