When BiH will get Coordination Body for the Fight against Terrorism?

Parlament-BiHCoordination Body for the fight against terrorism has not been established yet, and the meeting of the Council of Ministers of BiH was held on the 28th of July on the agenda was announced consideration of a Draft decision on the establishment of the Coordination Body for the fight against terrorism, but due to obtaining the necessary opinions, the listed item on the agenda was postponed in order to discuss the comments and suggestions submitted by individual ministers.

At the initiative of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Security of BiH undertake activities aimed for making the Draft decision on the establishment of the Coordination Body for fight against terrorism in BiH, but it has not been done yet.

By the Decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH was established a group for combating terrorism and strengthen the ability to fight terrorism, which is consisted of representatives of state, entity and authorities and Brcko District, which is working under the direction and supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH  and the Ministry of Security of BiH.

“After 9 years of existence of the Task Force, it was noted that this working group does not have comprehensive competences in order to adequately fight the terrorism. After analyzing the previous work of the group, as well as actual terrorist activities and increased threat of terrorism, it was concluded that there is an urgent need to reconstruct the existing Task Force into a coordination body,” as stated from the Ministry of Security of BiH.

“Coordination Body for the fight against terrorism would have the function of preventing certain terrorist activities by collecting information based on which they will make the analysis in accordance with the needs,” as added from the Ministry of Security of BiH.

However, the Government of the RS rejected the Draft decision on the establishment of the Coordination Body for the fight against terrorism in BiH.

The entity government assessed that the attempt of establishing such a body by means of a decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH represents the legal and political precedent.
