Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) major telecom operators were given licenses for start implementing 4G network in the country here on Monday, local media reported.

Director of the country’s Communications Regulatory Agency Predrag Kovac handed over the licenses, pointing out the importance of 4G network introduction.

Kovac highlighted that 4G network will bring significant benefits to citizens, and to companies which are providing various types of services which will be more accessible to users.

During the ceremony, Chairman of BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic said that over 60.0 percent of the country will be covered by 4G network, and in the next five years, over 90.0 percent of the territory. The speed of reception and sending will be 7 or 8 times faster than the 3G network.

The first city to use the 4G network is Sarajevo, and then Mostar, a city 130 kilometers southwest of Sarajevo, followed by other cities.

Telecom operators are obliged to pay a fee of 17.5 million KM (10.06 million U.S. dollars) into the budget of the BiH institutions between 2019 and 2023.

BiH’s Council of Ministers adopted a decision to introduce the 4G network at a session on March 11. The country would fully establish a 4G network in five years, Xinhua reports.
