Ornithological Society “Naše Ptice” (Our Birds) in cooperation with the public institution for protected natural areas of the Sarajevo Canton organized at Vrelo Bosne a bird watching activity and thus joined the celebration of the European Birdwatching Weekend.
Chairman of the society Dražen Kotrošan says that this activity, asides Sarajevo, was carried out in several cities across the country.
The unified report on the activities will be sent to the umbrella organization for the study and protection of birds.
“Our intention is to promote bird watching itself. We observe all the birds. We record all the birds that we notice in designated surroundings,” he says.
The European Birdwatching is marked in the first weekend of October, and the goal is to protect and observe the birds, but also to collect as much data as possible data about birds in one day. Some states are less and some more developed in this respect.
BiH, says Kotrošan, is at the very bottom when it comes to bird watching. He says that the country has few bird watchers, but that nevertheless the interest is growing and for the past several years they have marked the European Birdwatching Weekend with the hope that this activity will become more popular in the country.
