highway V5Yesterday, the JP Highways Federation officially opened a section of the highway “Sarajevo West – Tarčin –  Loop Tarčin.” With this opening, BiH has received 20 new kilometers of highway to the sea. The value of the project is 300 million Euros.

“This is a historic moment for BiH. From the 300 million Euros spent, 200 million Euros went to domestic companies. For the section “Sarajevo west-Tarčin – Loop Tarčin” 20 million Euros were spent, which is less than what was anticipated. This is a very demanding section, however, we managed to finish on top of all the problems for two years, “said Ensad Karic, director of JP Highways Federation.

With the opening of this section, Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a total of 124 kilometers of highway. The work was performed by the Turkish company Cengiz with 60 local companies as subcontractors. In the building of section 2 000 workers worked, 20 kilometers of highways was built, of which 5.5 kilometers of tunnels and 1.5 km of bridges.

“This is a big day for BiH and its citizens, because with this section Bosnia is connected with Herzegovina,” said the Prime Minister of Federation, Nermin Niksic.

According to him, the road from north to south of the country will be shortened by almost two hours.

Traffic on the section “Sarajevo west – Tarčin – Loop Tarčin” will be released tomorrow at six o’clock in the morning. Toll will not be charged until the end of the year.
