The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina plans a new investment in an automatic license plate recognition system at border crossings. At the same time, BAM 256,400 was allocated for equipment needed to maintain and upgrade it.
The tender was published yesterday, October 5. It covers the infrastructure behind the automatic license plate recognition systems for vehicles crossing the border.
Most of the money—BAM 210,400 excluding VAT—goes toward upgrading the Data Center of the Border Police. They are expanding data storage capacity, and this part alone makes up over 80 percent of the total estimated value.
The remaining BAM 46,000 is split into two equal parts. BAM 23,000 goes for network equipment and port switches. At the same time, BAM 23,000 is for APC batteries that keep a stable power supply for the IT infrastructure.
All three segments are part of the system the Border Police uses for automatic license plate reading at border crossings in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Such technology uses cameras to register a vehicle and automatically recognize its license plates, allowing police officers to conduct faster data checks without manually entering each plate. The system is especially significant when checking vehicles and determining whether a specific license plate is listed in police databases.
However, the new procurement does not mean that the Border Police is only now introducing automatic license plate reading. The title and content of the tender show it is about the maintenance and upgrade of the existing system, with the largest investment directed precisely at its Data Center.
The procurement is divided into three lots so that companies can apply for one or more of them. The contract will be awarded based on the lowest price offered.
When VAT is calculated on the estimated value of BAM 256,400, the total value of the equipment could amount to approximately BAM 300,000, depending on the prices submitted by the bidders.
