The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team defeated San Marino in the 3rd round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and still have a 100% record in Group H.
Head coach Sergej Barbarez, who made three substitutions at half-time (Arjan Malić, Adrian Leon Barišić and Armin Gigović came off, replaced by Amar Memić, Tarik Muharemović and Amar Dedić), listened to the messages from the stands and already in the 62nd minute introduced the insufficiently recovered captain Edin Džeko into the game, who replaced Baždar.
The then captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team, striker Ermedin Demirović, expectedly handed over the captain’s armband to Džeko. Already in the 65th minute, he hit the outside of the net from the left and from close range.
A minute later, he also shook the net for a 1:0 lead, and in the 87th minute, after his shot from the right, goalkeeper Edoardo Colombo stood out, who deflected the ball into a corner. The ball reached Džeko again in the same minute, who shot on the ground, but this time the ball went out of bounds. In stoppage time, Džeko signaled that an away player had blocked the shot with his hand in his own penalty area after his shot, but referee Luis Godinho from Portugal did not consider it a penalty.
Tonight, Austria and Romania will play in Group H, while Cyprus is free. Table: Bosnia and Herzegovina 9, Romania and Cyprus 3 each, Austria 0 (-2) and San Marino 0 points.
