Bosnia and Herzegovina has advanced by two more positions on the Global Peace Index 2020 list and ranks 79th, according to the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace.

Like the previous 13 years, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world.

When it comes to the countries of the region, compared to last year when it fell by two places, this year Croatia has advanced by two and is again in 26th place as in 2018.  Serbia fell behind by one place – 51, and Slovenia also fell behind, which “went” from 8th to 11th place.

Montenegro fell the same by two places and is in 69th place, while North Macedonia advanced again and is in 62nd place.

In the first places, after Iceland, are New Zealand, Austria, Portugal and Denmark, while Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list, followed by Syria, Iraq and South Sudan.

The Global Peace Index report is published every year, and evaluates countries according to 23 criteria divided into three categories: general security, militarization and international disputes.
