SERBIA-HUNGARY-EU-MIGRANTSAccording to the data of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the number of migrants who arrived from the Middle East in first nine months of 2015 exceeded the number of BH refugees during 1992.

“During 2014, 630.000 asylum seekers were registered in the EU, which is equal to the number registered last time during conflict between B&H and Serbia in 1992. According to the latest analysis, 700.000 asylum seekers entered EU so far during 2015. By the end of the year, there could be a million asylum seekers in the EU”, stated OECD.

Predictions on the number of migrants in this study according to the estimations of the analysts are realistic, given the number of persons arriving to the European continent via the so-called Balkans route.

OECD estimated that between 350.000 and 450.000 persons will stay in the countries of the EU, and that the asylum will not be granted to a large number of refugees.

“It is impossible to predict when will this mass exodus end”, OECD stated.

It is also stated in the study that the Syrian refugees are more skillful than those who left B&H during the nineties.

“There is also more unaccompanied children and children without parental care among the Syrians”, the study stated.

It is also added that Europe has a far better legal system for the asylum seekers nowadays than in 1992.

“However, even this did not result in countries sharing the burden of receiving the refugees and it did not prevent people from trying to move to the EU via the smugglers’ routes”, OECD stated.

Furthermore, it is stated for the refugees from the Middle East that they are of different origin and have different reasons for arrival than it was the case with the BH refugees.

“Previous experience with the refugees shows that they can become valuable for the economy of the European countries”, OECD concluded.
