On July 24th and 25th, Sarajevo will host the official FIBA 3×3 tournament, putting the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the calendar of the World Basketball Federation for one of the fastest growing sports competitions. Tournament organizer Eldin Čamdžić, in an interview with BHRT, points out that this is a significant step forward for domestic basketball and an opportunity for Sarajevo to become a recognizable destination on the international 3×3 scene.
The “Sarajevo 3×3” tournament will be held on the plateau opposite the Town Hall, with the participation of local and international teams, youth selections and numerous accompanying contents for the audience.
Program for all generations
On the first day of the tournament, the youth categories are on the program – pioneers, cadets, juniors and pioneers, while on the second day, senior teams will perform.
According to Čamdžić, the interest is great, and the 18 best-ranked teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and Europe will participate in the senior tournament.
In addition to the basketball competitions, on the first day there will also be a Skills Challenge, a three-point shooting competition, as well as a meeting with the representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina Haris Delalić, Amar Gegić and Sani Čampara.
Basketball builds the self-confidence of young people
Čamdžić believes that 3×3 basketball is a great opportunity for young basketball players to develop independence and self-confidence.
“In this discipline, there is no coach during the game. The players make their own decisions, choose teams and take responsibility, which is especially important for their development,” said Čamdžić in a guest appearance on BHRT’s Morning for All show.
He added that street basketball has been an important part of the development of many basketball players for years, and now through the FIBA system it is gaining additional importance.
Rich content and rewards for the audience
In addition to top matches, the organizers have prepared numerous contents for the visitors.
The audience will be able to participate in prize games, and the luckiest will win a trip to Istanbul, sports equipment, jerseys and other gifts provided by the tournament’s sponsors.
Čamdžić says that the organization of the tournament was not easy, especially because of the short time for preparations, but he points out that the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo and the Ministry of Culture and Sports recognized the importance of the project.
The tournament will be held on the plateau across from the Sarajevo City Hall, a location that the organizers believe is one of the most attractive for holding such an event.
Calling basketball fans
The organizers invite all sports fans to visit Baščaršija on July 24 and 25 and attend the two-day basketball spectacle.
