Bosnia and Herzegovina will not give up the Search for missing Persons

The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, spoke with the director of the International Commission on Missing Persons for Europe (ICMP), Matthew Holliday.

Bećirović reminded that on this day in 1992, a terrible war crime took place in Visegrad in which 70 people were killed and are still missing. It was established that this is also one of the reminders of the importance of the existence and work of organizations that search for missing persons.

During the conversation, it was pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not give up the search for missing persons and that it is important to ask all levels of government to provide full support to this process. It was emphasized that the prosecution of all those responsible for genocide and war crimes must continue.

The director of the International Commission for Missing Persons for Europe, Mathew Holliday, informed Bećirović about the existing mechanism for regional cooperation to resolve the issue of persons missing in conflicts in the territory of the former Yugoslavia.

The member of the BiH Presidency expressed his gratitude for the support and work of the ICMP in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been providing assistance in finding missing persons since 1996.

Bećirović pointed out that the engagement of the International Commission for Missing Persons had a significant impact on the process of searching for missing persons, but also on the identification of the found remains.

During the meeting, the importance of ICMP’s role in the establishment of the Institute for Missing Persons was highlighted, the BiH Presidency announced.
