Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević went to Austria yesterday to take over the International Commission for Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) Presidency.

“One of the main characteristics of the Danube River Basin is its diversity,” says incoming President Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević. “The ICPDR unites regions among the richest and among the poorest in Europe, people from different language families, landscapes and cultures. Coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina, I am confident that our experience in managing diversity will benefit the presidency of 2013.” As 19 countries have a share in the Danube River Basin, it is considered the most international River Basin in the world.

After taking over the presidency, new president of ICPDR Salkičević-Dizdarević will have a press conference on 17 January, after she returns from Austria. The press conference will be held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Economic Relations.

ICPDR is an international organisation consisting of 14 countries and the EU and is one of the largest and most active international water management bodies in Europe, and it doesn’t just deal with the Danube River but also with the Sava River and its tributaries which is very important for BiH because Sava is the second largest tributary to Danube.
