Emotional scenes were seen at the end of the match of the 3rd round of the League of Nations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden (1:1), where the entire BiH public witnessed the official and touching farewell of the greatest football player in the history of our national team.
After the final whistle of the referee, the players and the coaching staff of Dragons made an honorary fence through which captain Edin Džeko passed, while thunderous applause and chanting of his name echoed from the stands of Bilino Polje.
Visibly overcome with emotion, Džeko could not hold back his tears as he thanked the most loyal fans for decades of support for the last time in his playing career.
This historic moment was also attended by the president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vico Zeljković, and the director of the national team, Emir Spahić, who, together with the national team members and members of the professional staff, gave great recognition to the legendary striker for everything he gave to BiH football.
On this occasion, he was presented with numerous awards, including the one prepared by the Swedish national team, while it was especially emotional when Edin’s family appeared on the field, after which they made a circle of honor around the stadium together.
In those moments, numerous stuffed toys, intended for children from the Pomozi.ba Association, were thrown onto the field.
At the end, there was a joint photo with members of the national team and family, after which the Diamond ended up in the hands of representative colleagues.
The evening in Zenica will be remembered for the historic moment in the 63rd minute, when Edin Džeko handed over the captain’s armband to the cheers of the packed stadium, the fans’ song and thunderous applause and left the field, giving his place to Haris Tabaković.
This officially put an end to an incredible national team career during which he scored as many as 73 goals in 152 appearances in his favorite jersey, leaving an indelible mark and legacy for all future generations, Klix.ba writes.
