Thirty seven Bosniak leaders agreed on and signed the final version of the Joint Statement condemning terrorism and violent extremism. As they pointed out, this statement is a reflection of their feeling of responsibility towards preserving peace and co-existence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Draft Statement was agreed on at the meeting of social and political leaders with the Reis-ul-Ulema Husein ef. Kavazović.
“We want to confirm that the Islamic Community has adopted its declarations back in 2007, in which it stated that the interpretation of religion in B&H must be in accordance with how our ancestors taught in this area. We condemn every form of incitement to hatred and violence,” said Husein ef. Kavazović on this occasion.
Bosniak member of the Presidency of B&H Bakir Izetbegović was of similar oppinion.
“The Islam we live is opposed to the ideology of takfir. We will have to defend our religion, culture, and system of values again. This time we must oppose to every form of radicalism and violent extremism and we will have to do it institutionally, intellectually, morally and politically,” Izetbegović said.
Following are excerpts from the Joint Statement:
- We most strongly condemn every form of terrorism and all terrorist activities performed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe, in Muslim countries, or anywhere in the world.
- We express determination to oppose institutionally, intellectually, morally and politically to every form of radicalism, violent extremism and terrorism, regardless of from whom of from which side they come. We specially highlight the need for intensifying activities on all levels of legislative and executive authority which will rapidly eliminate injustice, inequality and other sources of frustrations and radicalization in the society.
- We demand from all relevant institutions in the country to, in accordance with their authorizations and with the aim of preserving constitutional values, rights and freedoms of all citizens and peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina, uncompromisingly oppose to every form of radicalism, violent extremism and terrorism, as well as to other forms of activity that are contrary to the legal system, public safety, moral, or are harmful for lives and health, or rights and freedoms of other people.
