Jasenko Selimovic, Swedish politician originally from Sarajevo, was a candidate for the European Parliament in elections that were held in May last year.
Selimovic, who fled to Sweden during the war, where he continued to live and deal with politics, is the first politician with BiH origin who entered the European Parliament.
Jasenko Selimovic was born in 1968 in Sarajevo and is the President of the Liberal Political Party (FP). Since 2010, he is the Secretary of the Minister for Integration of Sweden, Erik Ullenhag.
He was educated at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo, and after that at the Institute for drama in Stockholm.
He is a winner of series of theater awards for artistic achievements and the contribution to Sweden art, among which the award “Dagbladet Thalia“ from 2000 and the award of the theater “Expressen“ from 1997 tand out.
Also, Selimovic regularly wrote columns for the popular social magazine “Focus“ while he was the drector of SR Radioteatern from 2006 to 2009.
In September 2009, Selimovic left the job of the director of SR Radioteatern and nominated for the parliament from the Liberal Political Party in elections in 2010.
