Brcko is moving towards sustainable, clean Energy

Brčko is moving towards sustainable, reliable, clean energy. By the end of March, the Government will introduce to the Assembly laws on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, the Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor, Michael Scanlan, stated today.

This will attract investment in the energy field, which will not only promote locally produced clean energy but also create new private-sector jobs.

This is complemented by the energy efficiency retrofitting of public buildings under a UNDP initiative. Three public health buildings have already been completed, and four more will be done this year.

The result is new refaced public buildings, warm health facilities, offices, and schools, and more money in the District’s budget through reduced energy bills to ensure all public buildings are retrofitted and more funds are left for capital projects.

As for standards, regrettably, the number of temporary service contracts continues to grow, a practice used by all parties be they in the majority now or in the past. This underscores the need for the adoption this spring of a new Law on Civil Service. Jobs in the administration, part-time or permanent, are not a tool for parties to win votes. The Civil Service exists to ensure quality services for the citizens and businesses of the District, including e-services, which are willfully absent, underscored the Supervisor.

Public funds are to serve the public not political parties or individuals. The District Anti-Corruption Office will start reviewing this summer the professional files of all public employees to ensure that when hired they had the requisite credentials.

The Supervisor discussed these issues in his meetings with the District Government and Assembly leadership, and heads of departments in the District Government.
