Brčko Supervisor Jonathan Mennuti paid a regular working visit to the District today, where he spoke with members of the Government and Assembly of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina and held a working meeting with representatives of the local media.

The Deputy High Representative for BiH and the Supervisor for Brčko, in a conversation with media representatives from Brčko, referred to the current media situation in the District.

“There should be more public engagement, there should be more requests from the public, more requests from authorities that come from the public, and the media should have a key role, to ask questions, monitor developments and report on the results, and based on those expectations and the results of the media’s work will be able to judge the work and the result of the government’s work on election day,” said the supervisor, adding that a change in Brčko is possible and attainable.

The supervisor said that the role of the media must be crucial in building the community and that it is the media that should hold political representatives in the community to account.

Journalists from Brčko pointed out that the media area in the District is not sufficiently legally regulated, and that more attention should be paid to investigative journalism in that local community.

The journalists asked the supervisor for regular meetings at least quarterly in order to inform him about the situation in the media as well as the processes followed by the media in the District.
