Director of the BiH Border Police, Mirko Kuprešaković, received UNHCR Representative in BiH, Lucie Gagné, and her colleagues in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

The officials exchanged information about the current situation with migrants and asylum seekers and the problems that members of the BiH Border Police face daily at the state border, the Border Police announced.

Gagné pointed out that the UNHCR cooperates with all organizational units of the BiH BP and supports the work of the BiH police agency.

Director Kuprešaković pointed out that the police officers of the BiH BP, in addition to the measures and actions they take to preserve the security of the border and the citizens of BiH, treat illegal migrants following the laws of BiH and international humanitarian law.

He added that the BiH Border Police will, as before, actively participate in UNHCR’s projects related to vulnerable categories of migrants and asylum seekers.

Also, Kuprešaković thanked UNHCR for its support in the development of this police agency, especially in the segment of donated training in the field of protection in the application process and general protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
