NATO actively supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in its Reform Process

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chairman of the Commission for Cooperation with NATO BiH Josip Brkić met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Javier Colomina.

The officials discussed the activities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EU and NATO integration processes, cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the current political situation in our country after the general elections, with an emphasis on reform processes and global security challenges.

Deputy Brkić informed the interlocutor that the Council of Ministers of BiH adopted the Reform Program 2021, the Reform Program 2022, as well as the Report on the work of the Commission for Cooperation with NATO BiH. Expressing his satisfaction with the decisions on the adopted documents, the deputy minister pointed out that the 2022 Reform Program will be sent to the NATO headquarters in Brussels as soon as possible.

Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO Colomina welcomed the adoption of the 2021 and 2022 Reform Program at the last session of the BiH Council of Ministers to continue and strengthen NATO’s cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He particularly emphasized the work and contribution of the members of the Commission for Cooperation with NATO BiH headed by the chairman Josip Brkić.

During the meeting, he pointed out that due to its strategic importance, NATO continues its commitment, assistance and dedication to BiH and the Western Balkans region, which will be discussed more at the meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of foreign ministers in Bucharest at the end of this month, at which Bosnia and Herzegovina is invited as a partner country.

He emphasized that NATO actively supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in its reform process, and welcomed the decision of the European Commission, which recommends our country the status of a candidate for full membership in the European Union, pointing out that our country faces obligations to provide full contribution in the process of implementing the necessary reforms, to receive a candidate status. He expressed the hope that after the formation of the BiH government, it will continue on the path of progress on the way to the EU and NATO.
