Britain announced on Thursday that it had sanctioned five ships and two other shipping entities under its Russia sanctions regime.
Earlier this month, Britain imposed sanctions on 10 more ships in Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of ships it says are using illicit practices to avoid Western restrictions on Russian oil.
Russia is resisting Western pressure to limit oil exports, and the past year has seen a surge in the number of tankers carrying cargo that is not regulated or insured by conventional Western suppliers.
The entities placed under sanctions on Thursday are White Fox Ship Management and Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC. The ships are Asya Energy, Pioneer, North Sky, SCF La Perouse and Nova Energy.
