Around 30 civil society organizations active in BiH and with its headquarters in Sarajevo, begin the campaign ‘’One Billion Rising”. It is a global campaign for violence against women, girls. As part of this campaign, activists and citizens of Sarajevo will join activists from throughout the world on 14 February at 14:00 in front of “Trg Djece Sarajeva” (area in front of BBI Center), announced from the CURE Foundation.

In Sarajevo the campaign “One Billion Rising” is the biggest day for activists in the history of V-Day. The Director of USAID David Barth will attend the global activist movement for violence against women and girls with the wife of the American Ambassador to BiH Danuta Moon, as well as other famous people from the cultural, public and political life in BiH.

Alongside the dancing that is the central act of this event, activists from a number of organizations involved in the campaign will hand out promotional material and will directly inform citizens of the problems relating to violence against women in BiH. This event was initiated as a call to action and response to the horrifying statistics that one in three women throughout the world has been beaten or raped. Since the total population in the world is around seven billion people, it is estimated that as many as one billion women and girls are suffering from violence.
