Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo (CS) Nihad Uk and Minister of Economy CS Zlatko Mijatovic visited Sarajevo International Airport yesterday, where they met with Director Alan Bajic and Executive Director for Traffic and Air Traffic Services Elvedin Begic.
One of the topics of the meeting was the intention of the CS Government to subsidize airlines that would open new airlines connecting Sarajevo with other numerous cities. The targeted subsidies would be given to companies that establish a base in Sarajevo or introduce new lines to cities that are assessed as being of strategic interest for connecting with Sarajevo, or companies that establish long-haul flights.
“The Government of the CS will directly support the opening of new airlines that will connect Sarajevo directly with European cities. This is a multiple benefits of the Canton. In addition to the fact that it ensures better connections with other European cities and provides our citizens with more efficient travel opportunities, it also represents multiple economic potentials, primarily for tourism. This model of subsidization has long been represented in the cities of the European Union (EU), as well as in our region, and it produces incredible effects,” Prime Minister Uk pointed out.
Moreover, Prime Minister Uk and Minister Mijatovic visited the works that are currently being carried out at the Sarajevo airport with their hosts.
The expansion and modernization of Terminal B significantly increased the spatial and technological capacities of the airport. In addition, works are underway within the second phase of the project, which includes the modernization of the old part of the Terminal, interior works, expansion of the Duty-Free Shop, and new spaces for supporting services, Biznis Info reports.
