The operational center of the Cantonal Administration for Civil Protection Canton Sarajevo has issued a warning for individuals and legal entities in the Canton of Sarajevo due to the predicted large storm.

“Given that the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an orange warning for heavy downpours, accompanied by thunder and strong gusts of wind for the time interval from August 28, 2023. from 17:00 until 29.08.2023. until 04:00 a.m. and that 30 to 60 liters of rain per square meter can fall and that wind gusts of 50-70 km/h are possible, we warn all legal entities and natural persons to take preventive measures in order to protect the health and life of people, as well as material and cultural assets, immediately in accordance with their competences, as well as their obligations, which are prescribed by the Law on the Protection and Rescue of People and Material Assets from Natural and Other Disasters, undertake the necessary preventive measures to protect against rainfall and strong wind (preparation of adequate forces and material and technical means for a quick response to announced rainfall and strong gusts of wind) because in this way the conditions will be created for more efficient and faster responses of all subjects of the protection and rescue system in a comprehensive response to potential challenges and threats from floods and strong gusts of wind, and this will avoid major material damage, as well as possible injuries and human casualties.

We especially appeal to legal entities that carry out work on construction facilities not to leave objects that could fall from the roofs of buildings, construction scaffolding, etc. due to strong winds, thereby endangering the safety of passers-by. We also appeal to our fellow citizens not to leave objects on their balconies and other open spaces that could endanger the safety of passers-by due to the wind, not to park their vehicles near large trees, and to avoid trips and spending time in nature during the orange warning period.

We especially appeal to the municipal civil protection services from the area of Sarajevo Canton to IMMEDIATELY put their organized protection and rescue forces on standby, so that they are READY AS FIRST RESPONSE FORCES, to respond to potential possible rainfall (heavy showers) and strong gusts of wind in the area of their municipalities.” it is stated in the announcement of the Operations Center of the Cantonal Administration for Civil Protection”.
