The Minister of Transport of Canton Sarajevo (CS), Adnan Steta, announced that a test run of the tram on the first section of the reconstructed railway line from Ilidza to Cengic Vila was carried out on Wednesday night.

“I am proud to be a part of this project, as well as all the people who participate in its implementation. After more than 60 years, we are building a railway that, together with the procurement of new trams, will give citizens the tram transport they deserve,” Steta wrote.

He pointed out that this is the first test and that more tests are expected in the coming period in order to test all functionalities. 266 workers participated in the first section through all phases of construction.

“On a track length of about 12 kilometers, the old rails were replaced, which for years did not provide either safety or functionality. The sleepers, which were on the old, non-functional track, were replaced by new underlay concrete that will provide additional safety, and in accordance with European standards, the drainage of rainwater, which did not exist before, was done. It is important to point out that all the materials used in the construction meet European standards and guarantee the quality and safety of the new Sarajevo railway,” Steta wrote.

The test drive was attended by a delegation of the Chinese company, representatives of supervision, subcontractors and all companies participating in the project.

CS Transport Minister Adnan Steta said at the end that the deadline for the construction of the Sarajevo railway is the summer of 2023.
