The session of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CIK BiH) is scheduled for today, and the proposed agenda includes an item related to the mandate of the President of Republika Srpska.

One of the scheduled items is “Resignations, terminations and assignment of replacement mandates: 1) President of Republika Srpska; 2) City Assembly of Zvornik”.

The Central Election Commission of BiH announced yesterday that it is carrying out its regular activities, one of which is initiating the procedure for determining the termination of the mandate of elected officials as prescribed by the Election Law of BiH.

The statement states that, based on legal procedures and case law, the Central Election Commission of BiH will also act in the case of Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska.

The CEC of BiH notes that statements to the media after the session are not planned. A public statement will be issued after the session.

The Court of BiH announced on August 1 that the panel of the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH, after a public session held on June 12, 2025, issued a verdict rejecting the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the appeal of the defense of the accused Milorad Dodik, and upholding the first-instance verdict of the Court of BiH dated February 26, 2025. A written copy of the verdict of the panel of the Appellate Division was sent to the parties on August 1, 2025, and an appeal against the same verdict is not allowed.

The Court of BiH recalled that by the first-instance verdict of the Court of BiH dated February 26, 2025, the accused Milorad Dodik was found guilty of committing the criminal offense of failure to implement decisions of the High Representative under Article 203a, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of BiH, for which he was sentenced to one year in prison.

Based on Article 203a, paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with Article 73 of the Criminal Code of BiH, the accused Milorad Dodik was also imposed a security measure of prohibition from exercising the office of President of the Republika Srpska for a period of six years, from the date the verdict becomes final, with the proviso that the time spent serving the prison sentence shall not be counted towards the duration of this security measure.
