For the collective funeral on the 11th of July this year in Potocari was identified a total of 28 victims of genocide, or that many families stated that they want to bury the remains of their family members, said spokeswoman of the Missing Persons Institute of BiH, Lejla Cengic.
According to her, among the 28 victims were five minors. She noted that the process of identification will be intensified in the coming period and that the number of victims will be higher.
The remains of the victims that will be buried this year, were exhumed in the earlier period from mass graves Zeleni Jadar in Srebrenica, Bljeceva from the area of Bratunac, mass graves Kamenica, Liplje, Cancari and Kozluk near Zvornik.
According to her, 6,661 victims of genocide have been found, identified and buried so far. She also said that 230 victims of genocide were buried in the local graveyard according to the wishes of the family and other victims were buried in the Memorial Centre Potocari.
The first collective funeral at the Memorial Centre Potocari was held in 2003, when nearly a thousand victims, namely 969 of them, were buried in the three-phase. In March that year was buried 600 victims, in July 282 victims and 87 victims in September of the same year.
In 2003 was buried the greatest number of victims. After that, every year on the 11th of July, at the collective funeral were buried remains of exhumed and identified victims of genocide.
The youngest victim who was buried in Potocari so far was a newborn baby, baby girl Muhic, and the oldest one was Saha Izmirlic, who was born in 1901.
