Alliance of organizations for support to people with intellectual disabilities of FB&H – SUMERO within the project “Strengthening and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in B&H” which is being implemented with the support of USAID in B&H today in Sarajevo opened a Center for empowerment and rehabilitation of people with disabilities.
The main objective of the Center is to enable users to live independently in the community, self -determination and self-representation and realization of basic human rights, stated the Alliance SUMERO at the opening ceremony of the Center for strengthening and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
“SUMERO is the largest organization dealing with issues of people with intellectual disabilities in B&H and as such we develop support programs for this group of population based on their needs. We do not build a new institution or a building where beneficiaries of this organization will be closed, but we provide training, support, and opportunity to pursue their goals”, stated the Director of SUMERO Haris Haverić.
In addition to educational aspects, this project aims to raise public awareness and to reduce prejudices of society towards people with disabilities, and some centers opened last week in Bugojno, Odžak and Prozor-Rama.
