Through an online survey, the Center for Security Studies conducted a public opinion poll from January 13th to 25th on the current socio-political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
Although the survey included a smaller sample of respondents, the research findings are an interesting source of knowledge about the tendencies in the thinking of citizens.
”The research focused on the population from the Federation of BiH (FBiH) entity. The majority of respondents are men (63%) aged 20 to 29 (64%), higher or tertiary education (74%). Almost 60 percent of those polled do not believe there will be a war in BiH. Almost half of them (47%) would, in theory, try to leave BiH if it is certain that a war will break out. On the other hand, 33 percent of them would not do that, while the rest did not know the answer to the question, ” it was stated.
According to a press release, about three-quarters of respondents (72%) believe that recent incidents across BiH are driven by internal and external factors. Half of the respondents believe that BiH citizens, political parties, and external factors share responsibility for the current socio-political situation in the country, while 42 percent consider domestic political parties to be the most responsible.
Forty-two percent of respondents think that BiH citizens, political parties, and external factors share the responsibility for stopping the deterioration of the current situation. In this context, an approximately equal percentage of respondents believe that the most responsible are political parties (22%) or BiH citizens (19%). In the long term, for the well-being of BiH citizens, the majority (64%) believe that the various modalities of accelerated Euro-Atlantic integration are the most important, while accelerated accession to NATO is given a milder advantage over the EU.
According to the Center for Security Studies, the findings of the research indicate that the respondents believe that citizens also bear part of the responsibility for the current situation, although drastically less than political parties, but also have the power to choose in which direction the state will move.
”Since BiH is in an election year, it remains to be seen to what extent citizens will choose political options that will truly work in their favor and how well the parties will prepare work programs in accordance with the real interests and needs of citizens.
