Central Election Commission decides to call and hold Elections

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC) today decided to call and hold the 2022 General Elections. Elections are scheduled for Sunday, October 2 this year.

Elections have been called for the election of members of the BiH Presidency, the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, the Federation of BiH Parliament, the RS National Assembly, the Brcko District Assembly and the Cantonal Assembly.

The elections, as planned and announced, were called by law at least 150 days before the date of the elections.

Of the seven CEC members, six were in favor of calling and holding elections in October this year, while one (Vlado Rogic) was against.

CEC member Vlado Rogic said that he believes that there are no legal provisions or preconditions for free and democratic elections and that all shortcomings should have been resolved by amending the BiH Election Law because there is a permanent election crisis in BiH.

CEC President Suad Arnautovic called on police officers to make a decision on financing the elections.

In addition to the decision to call elections, the Central Election Commission also considered other accompanying decisions concerning the organization of elections, primarily decisions on concluding the Central Voters’ List as of May 3 and regulations on registration of political entities to participate in the October 2022 General Elections.

After the Central Election Commission of BiH made the decision to call the elections, the provisions of the Election Law stipulate that the funds for their holding must be provided within 15 days.
