“We had very good, I can even say a great visit to Brussels. We had very meaningful discussions with high officials of the European Union. BiH can say that it has friends and partners in the EU, but we also have to understand that we must implement the basic things that we presented to them a year and a half ago when our goal was to submit the application and get a questionnaire. We have to put some things on our agendas and properly implement them. The Coordination Mechanism must be fully operational,” noted Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Dragan Covic, who summed up the results of the two-day meetings in Brussels.
Speaking about the meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, Covic noted that he is convinced that he will visit BiH soon and that BiH will complete a significant part of the work when it comes to its European path.
He discussed a whole series of issues with the European Neighborhood and Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, including issues related to the Transport Community, the failure to adopt the Energy Strategy and the entire agenda of internal reforms and the Election law, as well as everything else that should be solved before the election year, in order to have the election year without a crisis.
“As soon as we return to BiH, we will work on things that we can immediately finalize through the Presidency of BiH. Already at the first session of the Presidency of BiH that is planned on Tuesday, all these topics and obligations will be completed through my report. I will try to organize a meeting of presidents or political parties with the aim to introduce them to our dynamics and everything else that we have to do in the next six months. I will put the special emphasis on making the most of this year before the elections, because everything will be focused on them in the election year, and some people would like us to do that already today,” said Chairman Covic.
“I believe that we will need to be in Brussels every two months and inform our friends about the progress we made. I am very optimistic about the next eight months when it comes to the MAP and our candidate status in the EU,” noted Covic.
“I am convinced that we will have a slight step forward in the next 15-20 days and that we will be able to see the trend of change, and then will come the autumn when the positive changes will be even more visible,” said Dragan Covic, the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH.
