Chairman of BiH Presidency meets President of Lithuania

Chairman of the BiH Presidency dr. Denis Bećirović spoke with the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Naused as part of his official visit to the Republic of Lithuania.

This is the first official visit of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency to the Republic of Lithuania since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Lithuania in 1992. Chairman Bećirović is in Vilnius at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda. The Republic of Lithuania is a full member of the EU and NATO.

During the conversation, it was noted that the first meeting between the chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the president of Lithuania can represent an important impulse to strengthen cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefit. The importance of establishing two-way communication, strengthening cooperation in the field of foreign policy, security and economy was emphasized. The interlocutors agreed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Lithuania are two friendly countries with very good political relations, and that there are opportunities for further deepening and developing bilateral relations, especially in the field of economic cooperation.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, expressed his gratitude to Lithuania for the support that, as a member of the EU and NATO, it provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. On that occasion, he emphasized that the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina are the common interest of our country, the EU and NATO.

Bećirović expressed his willingness to strengthen overall relations with Lithuania, which has rich experience in pre-accession processes for the EU and NATO, which can be useful for Bosnia and Herzegovina as well.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda said that Lithuania undoubtedly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of our country. President Nausėda pointed out that the stability and development of the Western Balkan region is an important factor for the future of Europe as a whole.

Among other things, Bećirović expressed his gratitude for the support for the adoption of the Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica 1995 in the UN General Assembly. He pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not forget that Lithuania was one of the co-sponsors of the Resolution.

After the meeting, a joint press conference was held by the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, dr. Denis Bećirović and the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, hosted a festive lunch in the presidential palace in Vilnius in honor of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović.
