Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, speaking about the current topic of the resolution on Srebrenica, which is being worked on in the United Nations, said that there are those in the region who spread deception and lies, and that one of them is Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, reports Anadolu news agency.
On the occasion of marking April 6, Sarajevo City Day, numerous delegations laid flowers on the memorial at the Kovači Martyr’s Cemetery and on the grave of Alija Izetbegović, the first president of the RBiH Presidency. The chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović also laid a wreath.
“This is a big day not only for Sarajevo, but also for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are proud of our capital and our homeland. On April 6, 1945, Sarajevo was liberated from fascist occupation. Sarajevo is a city that, from 1992 to 1995, during the brutal aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, survived the longest siege in modern human history, but it survived. Even today, it is still a modern, European, cosmopolitan city. Our obligation is to preserve the truth about Sarajevo, the truth about the genocide committed in Srebrenica, the truth about all of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Bećirović told reporters after laying the wreath.
He continued that there are those in the region who do not preserve the truth, but spread deception and lies.
“One of those is the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić. In recent weeks, he has lowered himself to a level below civilized values when he again denies the genocide committed against Bosniaks in Srebrenica. He should not do that. I call on him to accept the verdicts of the United Nations courts. That is very important for the future of the entire region. Because not a single resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations can have more force than the final judgments of the courts of the United Nations,” said Bećirović.
Bećirović called on Vučić to, as he said, if he wants to say anything about Srebrenica, about the genocide committed in Srebrenica, “to first submit 16 minutes of the Supreme Defense Council of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia so that the domestic and international public will learn the full truth. And to stop hiding the truth”.
He added that the resolution on the genocide committed in Srebrenica is being worked on for a long time and seriously. Unfortunately, he said, the Bosnian public is often told about it by people who have no “relaxation” with that resolution or even know what it says.
“The purpose of that resolution is to strengthen the process of trust and reconciliation both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the entire region. Together with our friends around the world, the Federal Republic of Germany and Rwanda are at the head of the group of friends that represents this in the United Nations. And there are countries with of all continents. It is in the interest of all humanity to prevent evil, to teach new generations in educational systems so that genocide would never happen again to anyone,” concluded Bećirović.
