wang2Director of the Regional Office for Europe of the Chinese news agency Xinhua, Wang Chaowen who is visiting Sarajevo, held a lecture on the topic “New Media: Challenges and Opportunities in Globalized World.” at the Faculty of Political Science.

“This is my first visit to Sarajevo and I am delighted to have been invited to deliver a lecture hosted by the FBiH News Agency (FENA),” said Chaowen before the lecture, and added that ever since he saw the film “Valter defends Sarajevo” he had a wish to visit Sarajevo.

He points out that in today’s world, new media are crucial for the development of the media because the habit of reading and receiving information has changed drastically with younger generations.

“I believe that today’s lecture on the development of new media in China in the context of exchange of experiences will be useful to students in Sarajevo,” said Chaowen.

FENA Director Faruk Borić said that we have to keep in mind that the Chinese news agency Xinhua is currently the largest news agency in the world and that the Chinese economy is the second most developed economy in the world, which is why Xinhua is a very desirable partner to many news agencies and media houses around the world.

“We are happy that we managed to achieve cooperation through exchange of information and joint projects which will be further discussed next year, when we mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between BiH and China,” said Borić.

He rated as important the fact that the students of the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo have had the opportunity to listen to a man who has 20 years of experience and who is keeping pace with new technologies and their use in new media, which is an important part of journalism.

Xinhua News Agency is the state news agency of the People’s Republic of China, which has a global reporting network, it releases between 10 and 14 thousand reports and about 1,500 photographs and diagrams each day.

It also has a network of 2,800 freelance photographers worldwide.
