Christiane Amanpour recalled Sarajevo under Siege

Renowned CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour, in her show, reflected on the current situation in Gaza and Ukraine, drawing a parallel with the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), particularly the siege of Sarajevo.

In her emotional speech, Amanpour emphasized that war does not only involve the use of weapons in the traditional sense – guns, cannons, tanks – but that, unfortunately, basic necessities such as water are also used in wars as a means of control and torture of the civilian population.

“From my archive: I recall Sarajevo, where, during the siege, I personally witnessed how water was used as a tool in wartime tactics. Sadly, we are now seeing the same in Gaza and Ukraine,” Amanpour stated.

Today, in the context of Gaza and Ukraine, the situation is similar. In Gaza, due to the Israeli blockade, the population is deprived of basic necessities, including drinking water, food, and medicine, while in Ukraine, as a result of the war and the Russian invasion, there have often been attacks on infrastructure, including the water supply network and energy systems, which have similar effects on the civilian population.
