A Christmas concert “Silent Night, Holy Night!” took place last evening at in the Church of St. Anthony in Sarajevo, and the program consisted of pieces of classical composers especially selected for this occasion.

‘Ave Maria’ by Franz Schubert, Max Reger’s ‘Mary’s Lullaby’, J.S. Bach’s cantata “My Heart Ever Faithful”, ‘Christmas Tree’ and ‘The Shepherds’ from the cycle of Christmas songs by composer Peter Cornelius were all performed by Austrian artists – Bernhard Aichner (violoncello), Nina Violetta Aichner (pianist) and Jerilyn Chou (soprano).

The concert closed with Franz X. Gruber’s carol “Silent Night, Holy Night”, after which a documentary exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the premiere performance of this Christmas song and its messages of peace was opened at the church’s gallery.

Last night’s concert was organized by the Austrian Cultural Forum Sarajevo, which operates under the Austrian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Forum was established at the beginning of December as a platform for exchange between Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fields of art, culture, science and education, Federal News Agency reports.
