The Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was marked across the country. Mostly, still only in the Federation of BiH (FBiH). The scenes we saw from all parts of our country inspire optimism about the attitude of citizens towards their homeland. Regardless of the size of the problems, both external and internal, citizens say – we love our homeland.
In the capital, the commemoration began on Saturday morning with the raising of the flag on Hum Hill. A bit later, citizens, representatives of associations, and politicians laid wreaths at the Eternal Flame and the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Sarajevo. Citizens also appeared at the ceremony with protest banners, demanding justice for areas affected by last year’s floods.
Despite very bad weather, Zenica, for who knows how many times, showed itself as a center of patriotism in BiH. Wreaths were laid at the memorial sites “Stone Sleeper” and “Papirna,” and a significant number of citizens paraded through the city. Among them were those who know best the price of independence.
After the flag was raised at Fortica, Mostar marked its program with the characteristic jump from the Old Bridge.
And in Krajina, under the rain, representatives of the authorities, associations, and citizens paid tribute to fallen fighters by laying flowers at memorial sites at Humci, the Catholic Cemetery, and the Partisan Cemetery.
Images from numerous BiH cities restore hope in genuine patriotism because citizens, through their actions, are clearly saying – whatever it may be, it is ours.
