The city of Sarajevo will provide financial support for all safe houses throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Mayor Benjamina Karić.

Today she visited the Safe House in Mostar and said that Sarajevo has never been a silent observer, and it will not be now either.

“The tragic events in Gradačac, Živinice, Bijeljina are the last warnings! More than ever, concrete, purposeful and urgent measures need to be taken in order to protect our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and send the bullies where they belong, to prison “, emphasizes Karić.

She stated that it is important that the residents of safe houses, through various educational programs, acquire knowledge and skills, become financially independent, in order to regain self-confidence, will and strength for a new, safer step.

“I expect this project to stimulate other cities and municipalities as well, we need joint, teamwork, synergy of all institutions and individuals who can influence the safety of the community. My address today was a safe house in Mostar. The director of the Safe House told me that this year the house was not empty for a single day,” says Karić.

She said that the City of Sarajevo will provide financial support for all safe houses throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina!

“From the capital, a clear message went out to the world: we will not remain silent in the face of violence and we will fight against violence,” concludes Karić.

Earlier, Vedad Deljković, a councilor in the City Council of Sarajevo, announced that he would launch an initiative through which one million BAM would be secured for the operation of safe houses throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina through the rebalancing of the Budget.

“I believe that the City of Sarajevo, if it organizes support for women victims of violence, should help finance safe houses that, unfortunately, have major financial problems,” stated Deljković, Klix.ba reports.
