Colombia is severing Diplomatic Ties with Israel, the President had a Message for Netanyahu

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that his country would sever diplomatic relations with Israel due to the war and actions being carried out by Israel in Gaza.

Petro, the country’s first leftist president, has already sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called for joining the South African case, accusing Israel of genocide in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“Here before you, the president of the republic announces that tomorrow we will sever diplomatic relations with the state of Israel… because we have a government whose president is genocidal,” Petro told those gathered on May 1st in Bogota who marched to mark International Workers’ Day.

Meanwhile, for the first time since October 7th, a convoy of aid consisting of 31 trucks entered northern Gaza through the Beit Hanoun border crossing, known as the Erez crossing in Israel.

This is the main pedestrian traffic route damaged in the Hamas attack on October 7th. Israeli authorities said they would open it last month to allow aid to enter. This is in the northern part of the Gaza Strip; it is an area where people are in dire need, especially amid warnings of hunger coming from that northern part.

The opening of this crossing comes after a visit by the United States (U.S.) Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as the U.S. has sought to have more aid enter Gaza, Klix.ba reports.
