Eight-year old Affan Aidan Sabanac connected what seemed to be impossible – Zeljeznicar and Sarajevo.
Affan, fan of Zeljo, is training football in his beloved club, and he is also a member of the Athletic Club Sarajevo.
“I started to train football when I was four and a half years old in Zeljo and its great because I am a fan of Zeljo. Since Zeljo does not have athletic club, I went to Sarajevo. I chose athletics because I wanted to be faster,” said Affan, who is equally successful in both athletics and football, but he admits that he prefers football.
“When it comes to athletics, I am competing on 60 meters and I won so far two silver medals, two in Citluk and one in Sarajevo, as well as one team first place. In football, I won seven medals with the team, one gold, four silver and two bronze, and I have four individual awards, two for the best player and for the top scorer of the competition,” said the young striker, who has a great desire to play on the right wing in the future.
Igor Kojadinovic, athletics coach at AC Sarajevo, has nothing but praise for Affan.
“He started to train seven or eight months ago. He’s talented, he won medals, he likes to compete and does not like injustice. He came at the recommendation, but football and Zeljo are his first love. I did not have a chance to watch him playing football, but I heard that he is also very good and that he scores 3 or 4 goals on every match. He had a bit of hard time to accept Sarajevo and maroon color, but he managed to do it with the help of his friend Rijad, who is his biggest rival. Affan is trying to persuade Rijad to transfer to Zeljo because they need a fast player. It is a little hard for him to say “Sarajevo” at the end of training when we are saying goodbye, “says Kojadinovic.
