“Una-Sana Canton (USC) and the city of Bihac should get a new building of the Cantonal Court in the summer of 2017, and the works on the new building should start from the 11th of August this year,” as confirmed by the Ministry of Justice and Administration of USC.
Constructions works on the new building of the Cantonal Court in Bihac were officially announced at the meeting that was held in Bihac on the 3rd of August 2016, which, except representatives of the Court, was attended by representatives of the contractor, supervisor, design offices, the Department for physical planning of the city and representatives of the City administration.
“Previous government provided funds for the purchase of land in the amount of 815,000 BAM, and after completion of construction of the building, the government will provide funds for the equipping of the new building, for which is planned to provide one million BAM from the budget for 2017. These funds will be used for interior arrangement of building, purchase of new chairs, tables, cabinets, equipment, new archives and other things that are necessary for the normal work of all future employees,” said Nikola Findrik, the Minister of Justice and Administration of the USC.
Funds for the construction of new building were provided by the European Union in the amount of 1,615,000 EUR, with the aim to improve working conditions in the Court which has jurisdiction for processing war crimes and other serious crimes in the area of USC.
Thanks to this support, judicial institutions in Bihac will finally have adequate work conditions for its employees, and will be able to provide better premises and services for its citizens.
Ministry of Justice and Administration of USC is not directly involved in realization of the project, but it acts as an intermediary in all activities and conversations between the European Commission, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH and the Cantonal Court of USC.
The Cantonal Court in Bihac is currently sharing a building with the Municipal Court, which is why it does not have enough courtrooms, archives, offices and other public spaces.
The location of the new building will be in Borici, near the Islamic Pedagogical Faculty and the stadium Jedinstvo, and it is expected that the works will be completed in July next year. The works will be performed by a consortium of construction companies “Prijedor – putevi 2” and “Elektrometal” from Cazin and supervision will be performed by IGH Zagreb, Office in Mostar.
The project is part of a wider assistance of the EU for the rehabilitation of courts and prosecution offices throughout BiH, within the project of support to strengthening of the rule of law in BiH.
