governmentFBiH Government reached a Decision on the implementation model of the construction of highway section Konjic-Mostar North on the Corridor 5C, identifying the route according to the conceptual design which passes through Bijela valley and Prenj Mountain in the length of 35,16 kilometers between Konjic (Ovčari loop) and Mostar North (Vrapčići loop).
Means for the implementation of this project shall be provided according to the model “finance, design, construct”, so that the private partner proposes financial institutions that would give loan for these works in the amount defined with the construction contract.

The most favorable contractor for construction and financing will be selected. Works will be negotiated according to FIDIC contract terms on plants, projection and construction for electrical and mechanical plants, construction and engineering works according to contactor’s projects.

It was stated in the initiative of the Motorways of FBiH for the reaching of this decision that this section has been presented in the existing spatial-planning documents as to bypass the mountain Prenj and follow the existing main road. Total length of the route is 53.2 kilometers, of which six kilometers are bridges and viaducts and nearly 21 kilometers are tunnels, thus this represents the costliest section on the entire Corridor which significantly decreases its feasibility in general.

During negotiations with international financial institutions regarding construction of this section, it was implied that not even minimum elements of feasibility exist, therefore they are not ready for crediting the construction.

Due to this, the Motorways of FBiH started optimizing the route. According to the new solution, route of the highway uses natural advantages of the terrain – it passes through the Bijela valley and the mountain Prenj. In this way, the route is shortened by 18 kilometers.
