12969417_1149317771785844_598212204_nConstruction of the LOT 2C of the Sarajevo bypass is to begin in late April. If everything goes as planned, completion of works is expected in only eight months.

This would be the continuation of works on the section of the bypass that was put into operation in November 2015. That part of the bypass, which starts at the Butila loop and extends towards the east, is considered to be the starting point of the City Highway, while the LOT 2C represents continuation of implementation of the several-decades-old plan.

“LOT 2C starts from the end of viaduct Briješće that has been completed in the previous cycle, all the way to the connection with the street of Safeta Zajke. The section is 1.200 meters long and consists of two sub-sections. Sub-section one is around 700 meters long and represents a full profile of a highway with 130 meters long railway crossing. The second sub-section goes from the railway crossing, narrows down to a cross section of a city street (2+2 lanes without an emergency lane) and ends at one small roundabout in the street of Safeta Zajke,” explained Mirsad Dizdarević from Motorways of the FBiH.

According to information that Dizdarević disposes with and that originate from the latest meetings with representatives of the Municipality of Novi Grad that is in charge of implementation of expropriation in the field, a progress was made, thus already next week, between April 11 and 15, permission for the construction of the first sub-section will finally be handed over.

Despite the fact that works on the first sub-section are to begin soon, it is still not known how the LOT 2C will connect to the street of Safeta Zajke.

“There are two variants. One of them is to connect the LOT 2C with the street of Safeta Zajke with a roundabout at the foreseen location. However, expropriation must be conducted there and, if that is not solved, we will go with the option of connecting LOT 2C with the street of Safeta Zajke with a so-called arterial road,” Dizdarević explained.

Unfortunately, once the construction of LOT 2C is completed, continuation of the project of construction of the City Highway that should extend all the way to the tunnel in Velešići is uncertain.
