Continuation of successful Cooperation between UNDP and the City of Zenica

The Mayor of Zenica, Fuad Kasumović, and his associates hosted today the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Renaud Meyer, and the Project Manager of the Local Community Empowerment Programme in BiH, Nasir Nalić.

During the meeting, they discussed the successful cooperation between the City of Zenica and UNDP to date, as well as future joint projects aimed at sustainable development and improving the quality of life of citizens.

The UNDP Resident Representative in BiH commented on the significance of the moment in which the meeting is taking place, given the completion of the five-year programme cycle and the beginning of a new phase of cooperation. He pointed out that Zenica represents a positive example of a local community with which UNDP is recording concrete results and that there is significant space for further development of projects. He also emphasized that the priorities of the City of Zenica are in line with the strategic objectives of UNDP, which additionally strengthens the basis for the continuation and improvement of the partnership in the coming period.

Mayor Kasumović thanked UNDP for its support to date and emphasized the importance of the partnership for the development of Zenica.

“The partnership with UNDP is of great importance to us. Together we are implementing projects that contribute to the sustainable development of the city, with a special focus on environmentally friendly and innovative solutions. Our vision is clear – we strive for a green transition that will enable the economic empowerment of the population, but also the preservation of the environment,” said Mayor Kasumović.

He particularly highlighted the Zenica 1 Business Zone, which has enabled the creation of a favorable environment for the development of more than 170 companies that employ around 1,900 workers, all without a negative impact on the environment thanks to environmentally friendly production models.

The Mayor also highlighted a number of implemented and planned projects – the construction of an ecological heating plant, energy efficiency measures in collective housing buildings, investments in health institutions, the renovation of social homes, gasification projects, ecological waste treatment, the construction of wastewater collectors, and investments in road and other infrastructure. Special emphasis is also placed on the development of human resources as a key factor of success.

“We are implementing all these projects as a result of direct communication with citizens. Through regular visits to local communities, we receive information from the field and plan activities accordingly. Citizens are our most important partner,” said Mayor Kasumović, the City of Zenica announced.
