The water levels of the Vrbanja and Vrbas rivers in the Banja Luka area are under control, as is the inflow of water from hydroelectric power plants, and there is no risk of flooding, said Dragan Babić, head of the Department for Civil Protection and the Professional Territorial Fire and Rescue Unit of the City of Banja Luka.
“The inflow is 100 cubic meters per second at the hydroelectric power plant, and the reserve is another four meters at the lake, so everything is absolutely under control. There are no indications that there will be a larger inflow into the Vrbas. All announcements indicate that the most problems will be in Prijedor, the Una-Sana Canton and Tuzla. The heaviest rainfall is expected there,” said Babić.
He added that the Banja Luka fire brigade had five interventions in the past 24 hours regarding groundwater overflows, but that there were no major problems.
Babić added that the main problems are related to snowfall in the areas of Manjača, Bronzani Majdan and Krmin, where the winter service operates.
“We had a man evacuated yesterday, a dialysis patient. We have no more reports,” Babić said.
He added that the winter service on Manjača is clearing the snow and making its way to certain hamlets.
“There are large drifts, and the snow is wet, so digging has to be done,” Babić said.
