Today, in the building of the Municipal Administration in Srbac annexes to the contracts have been signed with 21 agricultural producers from the Srbac municipality to provide them with raw material for greenhouses and crop production under the EU-funded Flood Recovery – Housing Program, implemented by the UNDP BiH.

The agreements with the farmers were signed by the Mayor of Srbac Mlađan Dragosavljević and the expert associate of the Department for Economy, Agriculture and Social Affairs, Ninko Gužvić. The annexes approved raw material in the form of seedlings and plant protection and nutrition products for eight users, as well as seeds, fertilizers and corn protective equipment for 13 users.

The Flood Recovery – Housing Program represents a continuation of the European Union’s efforts to mitigate the effects of the 2014 catastrophic floods. The supported families fulfilled all the requirements of the public call for proposals, and, in addition to the economic support, they were provided with the assistance in housing through the rehabilitation of damaged houses or the construction of new ones.

“Last year, with the support of the European Union, the beneficiaries of the Program were granted greenhouses with the associated equipment, harvesting material and agricultural machinery, and this year a new donation is envisaged to further improve the greenhouse production and enable unimpeded beginning of spring sowing,” Ninko Guzvic said.

Nikola Suvajac from Lilić received a 100-square-meter greenhouse last year, seedlings, supporting material and equipment, and assistance will come this year as well. “I will get paprika and tomato seedlings and everything else I need for quality production. I’m very pleased, ” said Nikola.

Vlajko Ignjatic, who grows corn in the village of Povlic, will also receive assistance in the form of harvesting materials. “Last year, I got seeds, fertilizers and protective equipment and everything was fine. I believe that it will be the same this time. This means a lot to us because the damage in the 2014 floods was enormous. The water came into my house and my whole grain crop was destroyed, “ Vlajko said.

The Mayor of Srbac, Mlađan Dragosavljević, said that this is a continuation of good cooperation with the European Union and UNDP BiH, with the help of which a number of significant projects have been implemented.

The Flood Recovery Program – Housing was launched in September 2017 and aims to provide housing and economic empowerment to the most vulnerable families whose homes were damaged or destroyed in floods and landslides. The value of the program is EUR 15 million, and it is funded by the European Union in the amount of EUR 12.5 million, in the cooperation with entity governments, UNDP in BiH and local authorities. The program is implemented by UNDP in BiH together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB), Hilfswerk International (HWI) and partner municipalities and cities. The program is being implemented in 44 municipalities and cities in both entities of BiH.
