The meeting of the Deputy Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Ivica Bosnjak, with NATO representatives, held yesterday in Brussels, was assessed as an important continuation of the political and security dialogue between BiH and the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as a confirmation of mutual trust and a shared understanding of contemporary security challenges at the national, regional, and Euro-Atlantic levels.
The NATO representatives were led by Acting Assistant Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Piers Cazalet.
Bosnjak emphasized that BiH remains clearly and unequivocally committed to Euro-Atlantic integrations, which represent a strategic framework for long-term stability, democratic development, and strengthening the overall security of the state.
He stressed that cooperation with NATO for BiH is not only a political goal, but also an operational process that contributes to reforms, the strengthening of institutions, and the building of societal resilience.
“The Ministry of Security of BiH recognizes NATO as a strong and reliable partner in the development of the security sector, strengthening interoperability, and addressing complex and hybrid threats that go beyond national borders,” Bosnjak said.
A special focus of the talks was on key areas of activity of the Ministry of Security of BiH – countering terrorism and violent extremism, protecting critical infrastructure, managing the return of foreign terrorist fighters and their families, migration, and strengthening technical and human capacities to respond to new threats.
The Deputy Minister of Security of BiH pointed to concrete results of cooperation with NATO, but also reiterated the need for additional support in strengthening the capacities of BiH institutions, through the procurement of modern equipment and the implementation of specialized training.
He conveyed that BiH remains strongly committed to strengthening cooperation with NATO as a reliable partner in building a safer, more resilient, and more stable Euro-Atlantic security space.
Bosnjak will today hold talks with members of NATO’s Political Committee, marking the first time that the leadership of the Ministry of Security of BiH has engaged in this format with a body that has an exceptionally important role in shaping the Alliance’s political and security guidelines, the Ministry of Security of BiH announced.
