Agreements regarding the joint applications on projects financed by the European Union (EU) funds, especially concerning the cross-border cooperation programs in which potential candidates, as well as current members of the EU, may participate together, was the main topic of the meeting of the Minister of Economy of Canton Sarajevo (CS) Muharem Sabic with the delegation of the Board of the South-Transdanubian Water Management Directorate from Hungary, led by its director Mark Laszlo.
“We have implemented 60 projects through EU funds so far, whose total value amounted to around 300 million EUR. With this money, we have renovated maintenance machines, embankments, facilities and changed the entire computer system. We have gained tremendous experience in the process,” said Laszlo, adding that the administration is a public body that is financed from the state budget and employs 184 civil servants.
The institution manages 3,300 km of watercourses in the territory of 10,000 km2, which consists of Somogy County, Baranya County and part of Tolna County, and it is responsible for the prevention of damage that is caused by water, flood protection, water resource management, hydrography, monitoring and water supply.
It was announced that a memorandum of understanding will be signed this year, in order to confirm the joint cooperation of the Ministry of Economy of CS and this administration.
Sabic invited the delegation from Hungary to participate in the International Business Forum that the Ministry will organize in September this year.
After the meeting, a joint visit with the Agency for Water Area of Sava River Basin took place, where they exchanged experiences in the field of flood protection with the director, Sead Delic.
